Former gang member and Brick City star, Darel Evans, has died at the age of 33.
HipHollywood can confirm that Evans was shot to death around 11:58 p.m. on Monday while in Newark, NJ and was pronounced dead at 12:42 p.m.
The Essex County Prosecutors Office tells us that there are no suspects and no arrests have been made. It is unclear what led to Evan’s death, but we are told that the homicide and crimes task force are currently investigating.
Evans is known for his role on the American documentary, Brick City, a series executive produced by Forest Whitaker. The show, which was featured on Sundance TV, chronicled the life of people striving to be better and stronger.
Darel was a former member of the street gang, Crips, and went by the name Creep. But after a long stint with the group, Evans decided to change his course.
The 33-year-old started working as part of an anti-gang initiative within the Newark community, which according to Sundance TV, “led to a position at the respected Newark therapeutic center, Integrity House.”
