Tamar Braxton was rushed to the hospital on Monday during dress rehearsals for Dancing With the Stars and was unable to perform her first dance during the live taping of the hit ABC show.
“This is very much a live show,” Tom Bergeron explained. “We don’t have all the information right now. She might return in time to dance live here, we’ll keep you posted as we find out more.”
The details regarding Tamar’s medical emergency are unclear, but according to reports, the singer has been battling pneumonia.
Because Braxton was unable to perform her first dance, the pop star was judged on her rehearsal footage. After the tape ran of the singer’s rehearsal, her partner, Val Chermokovskiy, made an emotional plea on Tamar’s behalf.
“You just saw a person that shouldn’t have been here, and was here because she felt bad for her partner, teacher, you know, that’s why I feel really bad, because it shouldn’t be like that,” he said. “It should be a fun journey. I’m not here to make her life hard. We want to celebrate her effort.”
But shortly after Chermokovskiy’s speech, there was a joyful turn of events.
In the words of Tamar, “Won’t he do it,” because the beauty managed to arrive during the last twenty minutes of the show in efforts to avoid being eliminated. Braxton took the stage, straight from the hospital, and performed a routine to a cover of The Beatles alongside dancing partner, Nick Carter.
You might remember, back in September, Kim Zolciakk Biermann was kicked off the show following a mini stroke which kept her from competing.
Dancing with the Stars airs Mondays at 8 p.m. on ABC.
