Empire’s Gabourey Sidibe received some hurtful comments following last week’s steamy sex scene with MC J Poppa, played by actor Mo McRoe, but the star handled the critics with grace and dignity.

The actress was slammed by social media trolls who created dozens of memes poking fun at the rooftop moment, but leave it to the beauty to brush it off her shoulders. “Also, yes. I, a plus sized, dark-skinned woman, had a love scene on primetime television,” she wrote in a blog for Entertainment Weekly.

She added, “I keep hearing that people are ‘hating’ on it. I’m not sure how anyone could hate on love but that’s okay. You may have your memes. Honestly, I’m at work too busy to check Twitter anyway. #Booked.”

The star’s reaction to the negative comments was also applauded by co-star  Raquel Castro, who told HipHollywood during 92.3’s The Real Show that the backlash is “sad.” “I think that just shows where our generation is and the fact that they are so judgmental. She is a human being and she is beautiful, has a beautiful soul.”

She continued, “I’ve never got to work with her one on one but I’ve been talking with hair and makeup on set of Empire and they just talk about how her soul is so bright and she is just such an amazing person. Anybody who is wasting their time saying anything negative about that, they just have a problem of their own. That’s their issue, not hers.”

“I think she is handling it very well, all to her. She is amazing.”

Empire airs on Wednesday night’s at 9 p.m.

Annihilation is one hell of a visually stunning sci-fi film with five female leads on an expedition to uncover the mysterious phenomenon that is expanding across the American coastline.

For Natalie Portman, Tessa Thompson and Gina Rodriguez, the film, which also lends a voice to what is being called the year of the woman, dressing in head to toe military gear and going through tactical training was a bonding experience.

“”t was really fun. It’s weird to say that. But to have all these women in military training together, where we had to do these exercises … it was a great bonding experience with each other.” Portman told us.

And although the women had the opportunity to use real guns, firearms is not something the ladies of Hollywood advocate. “I’m anti gun to be honest,” Rodriguez said. “I say no guns. There’s no reason for people to have guns especially when you have these,” she said while holding up her firsts.

This past week Gina has been very vocal via social media about gun legislation and the idea behind policy and change following the tragic high school massacre an Parkland, Florida.
Annihilation, also starring Oscar Isaac, hits theaters on February 23.
