On Monday morning, just one day before the American League wild-card game, New York Yankees pitcher, CC Sabathia, announced that he was checking into an alcohol rehabilitation center.

But CC, who says he wants his “kids — and others who may have become fans of mine over the years — to know that I am not too big of a man to ask for help,” is not the only current or former star athlete to check into a treatment center.

Here are 15 sports stars that have received treatment for substance abuse.

Darryl Strawberry, most known for his time with the New York Mets and the New York Yankees, has had a troubled past. From enduring cancer to being arrested on more than one occasion, one of the former athlete’s most notable woes was his substance abuse.

In March of 2000, Strawberry checked into a rehab facility in Florida to get treatment. The MLB player wrote a lengthy statement to fans that read:

”While I regret that I cannot say this in person, I do want to express my sincere and heartfelt thanks to the many people who have provided me with support through this most difficult time for me and my family. My teammates, Joe Torre, the Yankee organization and, of course, Mr. Steinbrenner, as well as my doctors and the National Council of Alcohol and Drug Dependence, have provided a bedrock of love, understanding and hope beyond which I could have never imagined.”

”I also want to say to the fans everywhere, many of whom I certainly understand are disappointed and perhaps even angry at me, I will work every day of my life to restore the belief you have had in me.”

Darryl was also admitted to facilities in 1990 and 1994.

Watch: Julia Roberts And Owen Wilson Give Advice To Their 10-Year-Old Selves

To say Wonder is a must see movie is an understatement! Not only will the film touch you and inspire you to be a better person, it will also entertain you from start to finish.

But don’t take our word for it. HipHollywood sat down with the film’s stars Julia Roberts and Owen Wilson who shared their excitement to bring this heartwarming story to life and how they channeled their real-life parenting skills into the role.

“I think we felt a responsibility to be authentically parents and authentically parents to these two kids, said the 50 year old mother of three. “And I think that’s why you really believe these four people are family and are really having this experience together.”

In the film based on the NY times best seller, Roberts and Wilson play the parents of a teenage daughter (Izabela Vidovic) and 10-year-old boy (Jacob Tremblay) with facial differences entering mainstream elementary school for the first time.

When asked if they had any advice for their ten year old selves, Roberts said: “I have a ten year old son and I tell him to run.”

Meanwhile Wilson says he remembers 5th grade vividly, and enjoyed having his brother Andrew Wilson at the same school to protect him. “It helped so much having an older brother who was already at the school, so that would be the advice I’d give, have a cool older brother.”

Wonder hits theaters November 17, just one day before Wilson’s 49th birthday.
