Move out the way Kelly and Stacy, a new Barbie doll is in town and her name is Zendaya. That’s right, the actress is having a Barbie doll made that looks like her 2015 Oscars look that also started a huge debate.

You might remember earlier this year, the 18-year-old stepped onto the carpet in a gorgeous gown and her hair locs. But it was Fashion Police, host Giuliana Rancic’s offensive comment about the style that caused a huge uproar: “I feel like she smells like patchouli oil and weed,” Rancic said during an episode of Fashion Police.

Rancic received some serious backlash at the time, including a lengthy response from Zendaya herself. The singer wrote on Instagram:

“There is already harsh criticism of African American hair in society without the help of ignorant people who choose to judge others based on the curl of their hair. My wearing my hair in locs on an Oscar red carpet was to showcase them in a positive light, to remind people of color that our hair is good enough.”

Zendaya now says that she is “excited to be a part of the new direction the Barbie brand is headed, specifically how they are celebrating diversity in the line and encouraging kids to raise their voices.”

The singer ads, “It’s a positive message to send to my fans, including my nieces who are coming with me to the concert.”

She went on to tell Yahoo that “When I was little, I didn’t have one that looked like me, so I couldn’t connect with her in that way. But getting to visit the Mattel offices and see Barbie’s vision for the future …  it was really cool. I was able to see how they plan to diversify, broadening the horizons and the image of Barbie, and make it more, you know, open. I left the office feeling it was definitely something I wanted to be a part of.”

It’s unclear when the doll will be available for purchase, but when it does hit store shelves will you be running out to get it?

To say Wonder is a must see movie is an understatement! Not only will the film touch you and inspire you to be a better person, it will also entertain you from start to finish.

But don’t take our word for it. HipHollywood sat down with the film’s stars Julia Roberts and Owen Wilson who shared their excitement to bring this heartwarming story to life and how they channeled their real-life parenting skills into the role.

“I think we felt a responsibility to be authentically parents and authentically parents to these two kids, said the 50 year old mother of three. “And I think that’s why you really believe these four people are family and are really having this experience together.”

In the film based on the NY times best seller, Roberts and Wilson play the parents of a teenage daughter (Izabela Vidovic) and 10-year-old boy (Jacob Tremblay) with facial differences entering mainstream elementary school for the first time.

When asked if they had any advice for their ten year old selves, Roberts said: “I have a ten year old son and I tell him to run.”

Meanwhile Wilson says he remembers 5th grade vividly, and enjoyed having his brother Andrew Wilson at the same school to protect him. “It helped so much having an older brother who was already at the school, so that would be the advice I’d give, have a cool older brother.”

Wonder hits theaters November 17, just one day before Wilson’s 49th birthday.
