Unlike previous years, this time around the Emmy Awards nomination list seems pretty diverse — although there are a few snubs we can still point out … like, Empire!
Taraji P. Henson (Empire) and Viola Davis (How To Get Away With Murder) are going head to head in the “Lead Actress in a Drama Series” category (although neither show was nominated), but our girl Kerry Washington didn’t make the cut. Many can argue that the last season of Scandal wasn’t the best, but we’ll always ride for our girl KW. Oh, and speaking of Scandal, Olivia’s mom aka Khandi Alexander got a nomination in the “Guest Actress in a Drama” category.
Also in another head, to head, to head match up is Regina King (American Crime), Mo’Nique (Bessie) and Angela Bassett (American Horror Story: Freak Show) all in the “Supporting Actress in a Limited Series or Movie” category.
Black-ish got snubbed in the “Comedy” category, but the show’s leading man, Anthony Anderson got a nod for his role as Andre. Also getting some love in that category is Don Cheadle for House of Lies.
Both Orange Is The New Black and Uzo Aduba got nods for the popular Netflix show and David Oyelowo (Nightingale) got a nod for “Lead Actor in a Limited Series or Movie”.
Other notable nominations include Key & Peele for “Variety Sketch Series”, Bessie for the “Television Movie” category and Niecy Nash (Getting On) for “Supporting Actress”.
