NBA coaching legend Phil Jackson is not a fan of LeBron James, at least not the baller’s ball handling skills. In an interview with Bleacher Report, Jackson suggested that King James travels more than Anthony Bourdain.
“I watch LeBron James, for example,” he remarked. “He might [travel] every other time he catches the basketball if he’s off the ball. He catches the ball, moves both his feet. You see it happen all the time. There’s no structure, there’s no discipline, there’s no ‘How do we play this game?’ type of attitude. And it goes all the way through the game. To the point where now guys don’t screen—they push guys off with their hands. It struck me: How can we get so far away from the real truth of what we’re trying to do?”
The Zen Master may not be a fan of the Ohio native, but LeBron and his travels took the Cleveland Cavaliers to the NBA Finals. Unfortunately, Jackson’s New York Knicks didn’t even make it to the Playoffs. The team’s President is adamant that in time, and with the right roster, the triangle offense he’s trying to implement will work.
Jackson also had some interesting things to say about NBA offense in general. Check out his full interview here.
