Selma director, Ava DuVernay has become one of the most sought after directors in Hollywood and now there are reports that Marvel wants to get their hands on the Los Angeles native.
According to The Wrap, Marvel wants DuVernay to direct Black Panther or Captain Marvel, both set to release in 2018. Ava, who was the first black female director to be nominated for a Golden Globe, would be the first black and woman to direct a major superhero movie if she joins the Marvel team.
Back in February, Netflix asked DuVernay if she’d ever be open to directing a major Marvel film and she respond: “I’m not a big comic book fan, but I know I love to deconstruct heroes, deconstruct myths. I probably want to do some origin story.”
“Everything is possible,” she added.
Black Panther, set to star Chadwick Boseman as T’Challa is slated to release in July 2018. Captain Marvel, which “follows a woman named Carol Danvers who receives powers after encountering an alien from the Kree Empire” is expected to release in November 2018.
