Jermaine Dupri thinks Ciara’s new single, “I Bet,” was heavily inspired by his hit record “U Got It Bad” with Usher.
“Ciara’s new single is a complete rip-off of Usher’s ‘U Got It Bad,'” the producer told the Associated Press. “I’m clear on what I made and I’m clear on how music influences people and I’m clear on chord changes and how people move things. It might not be as evident as the ‘Blurred Lines’ situation, but I believe the same thing happened to me.”
Jermaine says he plans to contact Ciara and her producers to request song credit. You can listen to both songs below and judge for yourself.
Last week, Pharrell Williams and Robin Thicke were ordered to pay Marvin Gaye’s family $7.4 million for lifting from Gaye’s hit song, “Got to Give it Up.” During the trial, lawyers for Gaye’s family used an interview Pharrell did with HipHollywood as evidence “Blurred Lines” was directly influenced by Gaye.
