John Legend spoke his mind on Tuesday and defended what was perceived as some serious hater-ation following Beck’s shocking Grammy win.
During Sunday night’s show, Kim Kardashian posted an usie of she, Legend and his wife Chrissy Teigen making silly faces with the cation:
“This is the Beck won that award face?!?!?!”
Legend later took to Twitter to defend himself against the post, tweeting:
“Congrats to all winners, including @beck. Much respect. That selfie was taken before Album of the Year was announced.” He added, “Not that being shocked he won would have been a sin. Every article I’ve read about it said it was surprising. He’s still a great artist.”
Beck’s Album of the Year win was shocking to many, including Kanye West, who appeared to be the most bothered by Beck beating out Beyonce. “I don’t know what he said, all I know is if the Grammys want real artists to keep coming back, they need to stop playing with us,” Ye told E! during the Grammy after party. “We ain’t gonna play with them no more. ‘Flawless,’ Beyoncé video. Beck needs to respect artistry and he should have given his award to Beyoncé, and at this point, we tired of it,” ‘Ye began to say with his usual intensity.”
Beck didn’t seem to mind Kanye’s comments, telling People, “You can’t please everybody. I still love him and think he’s genius. I aspire to what he does. How many great records has he put out in the last five years, right?”
