Inside Alfre Woodard’s Oscar Sistahs Soiree

Once again, HipHollywood was inside Alfre Woodard’s uber exclusive Pre-Oscar bash to toast Black women in film. This year Woodard hosted the party along with White Diamond Lustre by Elizabeth Taylor and Piper-Heidesieck in the penthouse at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel.

“It’s all my sistah’s and we don’t ever get to see each other,”  explained Woodard. “Maybe one person coming and going, so everyone really looks forward to this day.”

This year guests included Viola Davis, Angela Bassett, Aisha Tyler, Rosario Dawson, Zoe Saldana and Kerry Washington to name a few. “This event is always one of my favorite events every year,” said Washington who will also be presenting at the Oscars. “It’s just about girls loving girls and I’m just thrilled to be here.”

Each year Woodard invites past and current Oscar nominees for an intimate dinner. This year she honored Selma director Ava DuVernay and actress Gugu Mbatha-Raw.

“It is women who have been nominated for the Oscar before in the acting category and  some in a perfect world who should have been,” explained Woodard. “But I didn’t want Ava to go unheralded this year because she did such amazing work as a film maker.”

Check out what Ava and Gugu had to say about being honored, and Sundays Oscars in the video above.

Girl Power Prevails At The 2017 American Music Awards

Music’s most amazing night went down Sunday at the Microsoft Theater in L.A. and we have to say the night was all about the ladies!

That’s right the 45th American Music Awards had some major moments and some major girl power starting with Pink and Kelly Clarkson.

The duo got the show started singing R.E.M.’s “Everybody Hurts”, but it was their solo performances that had fans going nuts.

Kelly Clarkson returned to the stage and had everyone on their feet with a medley of her classic tracks and new single “Love So Soft.”

While Pink took her career to new heights leaping off the side of a building while performing her hit single “Beautiful Trauma.”

Christina Aguilera, paid tribute to Whitney Houston with a commemorative performance for the 25th anniversary of The Bodyguard.

But the #Majah moment of the night had to be Diana Ross. The Motown legend was given the Lifetime Achievement Award, and performed some of her greatest hits before accepting the honor.
