Quvenzhané Wallis, David Oyelowo, Viola Davis Nab Golden Globe Nominations

The sun came up early for Annie star Quvenzhané Wallis on Thursday!

The nominees for the 72nd Annual Golden Globe Awards were just announced from the Beverly Hills Hotel and Wallis, most known for her role in Beasts of the Southern Wild, nabbed the coveted spot in the Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy category for her role in, Annie.

Wallis, who became the youngest actress to receive a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Actress in 2012 for her role in Beasts of the Southern Wild, was nominated alongside Amy Adams, Big Eyes, Emily Blunt, Into the Woods, Helen Mirren, The Hundred-Foot Journey and Julianne Moore, Maps to the Stars. 

David Oyelowo also nabbed a nomination for Best Actor in a Motion Picture, Drama ahead of the release of his film, Selma. While David and the film might have been snubbed from SAG Awards, the film does lead nods for the NAACP Image Awards. The director of the Civil Rights movie, Ava DuVernay, also picked up a nod for Best Director, becoming the first Black female director to be nominated for a Golden Globe.

Oyelowo, who plays Martin Luther King in the drama, is up against, Steve Carell, Foxcatcher, Benedict Cumerbatch, The Imitation Game, Jake Gyllenhaal, Nightcrawler and Eddie Redmayne, The Theory of Everything. 

How to Get Away With Murder’s Viola Davis, who was nominated this week for a NAACP Image Award and SAG Award, was also nominated for a Golden Globe in the Best Actress in a TV Series Drama.
