Everyone’s favorite orphan is back … but this time without a head full of red hair and freckles. Oscar nominated actress Quvenzhane Wallis takes on the role of Annie in the remake produced by Jayz and Will Smith. But if you’re thinking this is a black version of a beloved classic, Jamie Foxx says Wallis is an Annie all girls can relate to.

“Whenever I go anywhere, black, white, mainstream”, explained Foxx during the film’s New York junket. “When [people] hear that she’s in it … they say I loved her from “Beasts of the Southern Wild”, so I think that she transcends that color part.”

In this modern version, Wallis plays a resilient foster kid living in uptown NY when she is taken in by a wealthy mayoral candidate played by Foxx. Both Foxx and Wallis sing a number of songs in the film, but the 11 year old actress told us she wasn’t feeling any pressure. “It was really fun and something I was glad to do,” shared Wallis. “I watched the original Annie like a million times.”

And it definitely paid off. Wallis has already nabbed a Golden Globe nomination for her role. But she isn’t the only one who put on a great performance. Cameron Diaz, Rose Bryne and Bobby Cannavale also shine in the film. Don’t believe us? Go see it. Annie is theaters December 19th.
