Rapper Killer Mike delivered a powerful speech on Monday night following the grand jury’s decision not to indict officer Darren Wilson in the shooting death of unarmed teen, Mike Brown.
Before the rapper’s performance in St. Louis, an emotional Mike addressed the crowd and shared his reaction to the Ferguson verdict.
“RIP to Michael Brown,” he said. “I would like to give all thoughts and prayers to the people who are out there peacefully protesting. I also give thoughts and prayers to the people who cannot hold their anger in … No matter how much we do it, no matter how much we get sh*t together, sh*t comes along and kicks you on your ass and you don’t feel like a champion. Tonight, I got kicked on my ass when I listened to that prosecutor.”
“You motherf*ckers got me today, I knew it was coming … You kicked me on my ass today because i have a 20 year old son and I have a 12 year old son and I’m so afraid for them,” he said as he held back tears.
The 39-year-old who is on tour with EI-P promoting their second Run the Jewels mix tape continued, “We know you don’t value my skin, and we know you do value, but you know what we’re friends and nothing is gonna devalue that … There was a piece in my heart that I wanted to burn this motherf*cker down.”
“It is not about race, it is not about class, it is not about color, it is about what they killed him for,” he said. “It is about a war machine. I might go tomorrow, I might go the day after, but the one thing I want you to know, it is us against the motherf*cking machine.”
