Janay Rice On Ray Rice Elevator Attack: “He Spit At Me And I Slapped Him”

Janay Rice is finally speaking out about the brutal attack that left her unconscious in a casino elevator. In a first person story for ESPN, Janay opened up about being knocked unconscious by her then fiancé, NFL player, Ray Rice.

In September, surveillance video surfaced showing the former Baltimore Ravens player hitting Janay while at the Revel Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City, New Jersey seven months prior. In the shocking clip, you see Ray and Janay arguing before going into an elevator where the football player hit his soon-to-be wife twice before she fell to the ground unconscious.

“As we were arguing, he was on his phone and not looking at me. I went to reach for his phone, and when he grabbed it back, he spit at me and I slapped him,” she wrote. “We got into the elevator and what happened inside is still foggy to me. The only thing I know — and I can’t even say I ‘remember’ because I only know from what Ray has told me — is that I slapped him again and then he hit me. I remember nothing else from inside the elevator.”

She continued, “The next thing I do recall is being in the casino lobby, surrounded by cops. I said to one officer, ‘That’s not us. What do you mean?’ There were no marks on my face or body, and I felt perfectly fine. I was in complete shock.”

Janay, who later forgave and married Rice, added about publicly apologizing for HER actions: “I’m not saying that what Ray did wasn’t wrong. He and I both know it was wrong. It’s been made clear to him that it was wrong. But at the same time, who am I to put my hands on somebody? I had already apologized to Ray, and I felt that I should take responsibility for what I did. Even though this followed the Ravens’ suggested script, I owned my words.”

After the surveillance video was released, Ray was dropped from the Ravens and suspended indefinitely by the NFL. However, on Friday November 28, 2014, Rice won his appeal of an indefinite suspension, allowing him to become eligible to sign with any NFL team.

Music’s most amazing night went down Sunday at the Microsoft Theater in L.A. and we have to say the night was all about the ladies!

That’s right the 45th American Music Awards had some major moments and some major girl power starting with Pink and Kelly Clarkson.

The duo got the show started singing R.E.M.’s “Everybody Hurts”, but it was their solo performances that had fans going nuts.

Kelly Clarkson returned to the stage and had everyone on their feet with a medley of her classic tracks and new single “Love So Soft.”

While Pink took her career to new heights leaping off the side of a building while performing her hit single “Beautiful Trauma.”

Christina Aguilera, paid tribute to Whitney Houston with a commemorative performance for the 25th anniversary of The Bodyguard.

But the #Majah moment of the night had to be Diana Ross. The Motown legend was given the Lifetime Achievement Award, and performed some of her greatest hits before accepting the honor.
