2014 is Teyana Taylor’s year! Seven years after being introduced to the world on MTV’S My Super Sweet 16, Taylor has landed a role on BET’s upcoming series, The Start Up, has a new hair line and is finally dropping her debut album, VII.
HipHollywood sat down with the 23-year-old just hours before her listening party in Los Angeles where she revealed why she named her album VII, and what fans can expect. “It’s been a long time coming,” said Taylor, who is now signed to Kanye West’s label G.O.O.D Music. “It’s been seven years and everything is finally coming together at once … It just reminds me of when they say God puts you through so much to get you prepared for a big blessing.”
And the last couple of years have definitely tested Taylor’s faith. After a Twitter feud with Rihanna, Taylor lost her sneaker deal with Adidas. Several months later, she ended her rocky relationship with NBA baller, Brandon Jennings. Now, she’s pouring all of that into her music. “I definitely channeled a lot of my experiences, the last couple of years, these last seven years, so I took my experiences as a woman, maturing, falling in love, getting my heart broken, you kinda have to kick into all of that.”
Taylor adds that she kept features on her album to a minimum because she wanted to tell her story, although the album does have spots with Chris Brown (“Do Not Disturb”), Yo Gotti and Pusha T (“Maybe”), and Fabolous (“Broken Hearted Girl”).
VII is in stores November 4th.
Michael Rapaport Calls Himself The “MVP Of Talking Trash” Following Janet Jackson Controversy
Michael Rapaport came under fire earlier this month for slamming Janet Jackson Appreciation Day which was on Super Bowl Sunday. But now, he is speaking a slightly different tune.
On February 4th, as Janet fans used social media to praise the singer, Michael took to Twitter to do what he does best: Talk mess.
“Can anybody crying for Janet Jackson right now tell me the last Janet Jackson song that was popping,” he wrote. “Motherf*cka’s wanna make nothing something 24/7/365 & Super Bowl Sunday.”
Michael, however, is slightly backing down from his aggressive words. HipHollywood caught up with the actor during the premier of Shot In The Dark, to discuss not only his ability to talk “sh*t,” but being attacked by Black Twitter.
“I love Janet Jackson, respect Janet Jackson,” he told us exclusively. “The context of what I said is that Janet Jackson isn’t popping now like she was popping in the 80’s, 90’s. Doesn’t mean she’s not an icon.”
Rapaport, who is known to stir up on some drama with his Twitter antics, then added about being a sh*t talker: “I’m proud of the way I talk sh*t, I’m the MVP of talking trash. I can give it as good as I can take it.”
