There has been a lot of buzz surrounding the trailer for Lifetime’s forthcoming biopic, Aaliyah: The Princess of R&B. The biggest question being: Why Iggy Azalea’s “Goddess” is playing during the teaser video?
During HipHollywood’s recent chat with the film’s star, Alexandra Shipp, the actress revealed the real reason behind the trailer’s juxtaposition. “We are not going to give it away just yet. What are you talking about? We’re not gonna give the goods away yet. You’re gonna hear Iggy and then you’re gonna see the movie and you’re gonna be like ‘yep, that was cool.'”
She added, “Sure we’ll give away the dancing. Sure we’ll give away the clothes. Sure we’ll give away the image, but you ain’t gettin’ the music yet honey.”
As for the music, Shipp admitted that she will be singing throughout the film. As previously reported, the late singer’s estate blocked the use of her recordings to be used for the film.
