LeBron James is heading home back to Cleveland.
The NBA star, who has played with the Miami Heat since 2010, told Sports Illustrated that he will be returning to the Cavaliers. “My relationship with Northeast Ohio is bigger than basketball,” James told the website in a first-person essay. “I didn’t realize that four years ago. I do now.”
For several weeks, there have rumors that the Miami Heat all star squad (LeBron, Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh) will be parting ways … LeBron’s departure is the first of several huge announcements to come. “The hardest thing to leave is what I built with those guys,” James said. “I’ve talked to some of them and will talk to others. Nothing will ever change what we accomplished.”
On Friday morning ,the 29-year-old posted an image of himself on Instagram in a Cavaliers jersey with the words “I’m Coming Home” written across it.
Rumors of LeBron’s return initially kicked off after his wife, Savannah, posted this message Instagram:
“Home sweet home!! The countdown is real! #330.”
The high school sweethearts, who tied the knot in September 2013, both attended St. Vincent–St. Mary High School in Akron, Ohio.
Congrats to LeBron and his family.
