Just one month after it was announced that Yaya DaCosta would be taking on the role of Whitney Houston in Lifetime’s forthcoming biopic, we are seeing the first photos of the model posing as the late singer.
Curly haired and bright eyed, the former America’s Next Top Model contestant has already recreated the iconic cover of Houston’s 1987 album, Whitney. In the image, the model can be seen showing off her inner Houston in a white tank top, wild hair with a pop of red lipstick. We’d say it’s pretty spot on.
In June, Houston’s daughter, Bobbi Kristina made headlines after calling Angela Bassett, the film’s director a “bitch.”
“Ha, MsAng ‘bassketcase’ has such a damn nerve my lord, at least the world doesn’t mistake me for the wrong sex … she has some #XtraEquipment,” Bobbi wrote on Twitter.
She added, “When I win my first Grammy or Oscar, *Shrugs* hmm whichever comes 1st, I’ll be sure 2shout URname out b-tch! Hah UrTestResults = Male. Lmao.”
Bobbi’s Twitter attack was in response to an interview Bassett did with Entertainment Weekly about casting the movie. “I did not think about casting her [Bobbi]. And probably for a number of reasons, you know. One being that she’s not an actress. I know she’s acted here and there. I know she’s been on their family’s reality show, but she’s not an actress and acting is a craft,” she told the news outlet.
Bobbi Kristina later took to Twitter to apologize to Bassett, who is making her directorial debut with the film.
“I’m a young woman that can admit her wrongs. For who was offended, I apologize, BUT understand me before you’re quick to judge though,” she tweeted. “Your choices and decisions are the ONLY things you have to YOURSELF in life and you won’t know how important those things are until they’re taken.”
According to Entertainment Weekly, production for Whitney Houston (working title) has just begun production.
