Alex Shipp Cast To Play Aaliyah: Who Is She?

Published

The upcoming biopic Aaliyah: Princess of R&B may have hit a bump in the road after losing Zendaya in the leading role and receiving tons of backlash for not having Aaliyah’s family’s blessing , but, in spite of all that, the Lifetime movie is moving full-force ahead.

Talk Show host, Wendy Williams just announced she will be an executive producer on the project and revealed who has been cast to replace Zendaya.

I’m excited to exec produce the Aaliyah @lifetimetv movie w/ @DebraMChase. Prod starts later this month and @AlexShipppp will play Aaliyah,” Williams posted on Twitter.

If you’re wondering, “who is Alex Shipp?”, then you’re not alone. After a little digging this is what we know. 23 year-old Shipp’s most notable role is that of KT Rush on the Nickelodeon show House of Anubis. She’s also been featured on shows Victorius, Switched At Birth and Awkward. Her career spans just five years, but the gorgeous actress not only scored the role of a lifetime with the Aaliyah biopic, she will also be seen in the upcoming Drumline sequel, Drumline 2: A New Beat.

Alexandra also seems to have a passion for singing, which will definitely come in handy if she is going to nail this Aaliyah role. We spotted a young Alex singing a cover of Beyonce’s “Halo” on Youtube.

Zendaya was the perfect choice…stronger vocalist and definitely a great dancer. I respect the reasons Zendaya chose to opt out of the role. Very mindful and empathetic towards Aaliyah’s family at such a young age. Hopefully, the family will tell Aaliyah’s story in their own words and cast Zendaya
