Swizz Beatz is being painted as a king!
Friday night producer Swizz Beatz was honored by being immortalized in art by Kehinde Wiley, an artists who has been regarded as one of the greatest painters of our time. Kehinde’s main focus is painting portaits of everyday people but has also painted stars including Spike Lee and commissioned portraits for Micheal Jackson. Wiley opened up to HipHollywood before unveiling his painting of Swizzy at “An Evening with Kehinde Wiley & Swizz Beatz” on the red carpet at West Hollywood’s 10ak nightclub, saying that the ties between hip hop and fine art are growing:
“We’ve seen our great gods and goddesses represented in painting and its just so cool to see that the culture of hip hop is now recognizing the power of that.”
Swizz, an avid art collector agrees,
“It’s a marriage, Im just glad that in 2014 people are recognizing it.”
But not everyone is so positive about the ties between fine art and the world of hip hop. Earlier this year, Drake expressed his disdain for hip hop bonding with fine art stating,
“It’s like Hov can’t drop bars these days without at least four art references! I would love to collect at some point, but I think the whole rap/art world thing is getting kind of corny.” This is something that Kehinde and Swizz totally disagree with. (Watch the video above to find out what they had to say)
But all disagreements aside, since Swizz Beatz is adding a new painting of himself to his home, we wanted to know about the rumors that his wife, Alicia keys, is also adding something to their home — a new baby. Rumors have been buzzing around for a couple months that Alicia is pregnant after pictures were released of the singer with what people are calling a baby bump.
Find out what Swiss had to say about the rumors of Alicia being pregnant by watching the video above.
Remy Ma And Chris Brown Team Up To Celebrate Black Women
An ode to the pretty brown girls … yasssss!
Remy Ma is showing love to the girls that need it most with her new single “Melanin Magic (Pretty Brown)” featuring Chris Brown. Sampling of Mint Condition’s “Breaking My Heart (Pretty Brown Eyes)”, the song gives all the nostalgia feels with an updated tweak by Ma who declares her empowering look at self-love. “As a proud black woman, I wanted to highlight black women and celebrate our beauty and strength,” Remy stated in a press release obtained by HH.
What’s also special about the track is the fact that Remy invited fans via her socials to choose the cover art for “Melanin Magic,” as she wanted to broaden the conversation about ‘inner and outer beauty while celebrating both.’ Here’s the winner…
You can stream and purchase “Melanin Magic (Pretty Brown)” here: http://smarturl.it/MelaninMagic and cop Remy’s forthcoming album 7 Winters & 6 Summers when it drops later this year.
