106 & Park host Bow Wow shocked fans earlier this week when he announced via Instagram that after BET weekend he’s dropping his stage name.
“I’m going by my real name ‘Shad Moss.’ We made alot of history as Bow Wow. Now it;s time for the next chapter and challenge. Bow Wow does not fit who I am today. I’m a father, businessman, TV host, actor and rapper! Time for Mr. Moss to take over,” he wrote on the social media network.
On Thursday night, HipHollywood caught up with the rapper/host while at the ASCAP Rhythm and Soul Awards to talk about the big announcement, and one thing the 27-year-old made clear was that he didn’t technically “change” his name.
“I’m laughing at how everyone’s reacting to it because it’s me, Shad. That’s who I am. I didn’t know people would blow it out of proportion like that. I never changed my name, I’m just going by my real name,” he told us.
“I don’t think Bow Wow can handle the things that Shad Moss can do. It’s two totally different guys. I’m embarking on so many different things now and it’s the moniker I want to do. People can still call be Bow, I don’t mind that, but Shad is what it is. We accomplished a lot as Bow so it’s time to accept this new challenge and this new role. I can’t wait.”
The rapper, who will be hosting events throughout BET Weekend also revealed to HipHollywood that fans can expect new music in just two weeks.
