Mekhi Phifer Dead Broke, Files For Bankruptcy
Mekhi Phifer, most known for his roles in Soul Food, 8 Mile and ER filed for bankruptcy and according to TMZ, is dead broke.
According to the news outlet, Phifer filed for bankruptcy late last month, claiming roughly $67,000 in assets and according to the documents, is nearly $1.3 million in debt; which consists of $1.2 mil in back taxes, $50K in lawyers bills and $4,500 in back child support.
The documents also state that the actors monthly income is about $7,500 a month, but Phifer manages to shell out $11,600 each month. (You know the saying, champagne taste with a beer budget.) According to TMZ, the actor’s assets simply include a 12-year-old Segway (valued at $1,500), a collection of firearms (1 shotgun and 2 9mm pistols) and a leather bed, which we are sure gets plenty of use.
In April 2013, Phifer tied the knot to longtime girlfriend, Reshelet Barnes. The couple wed at the Montage Hotel in Beverly Hills with 100 of the couple’s closest friends and family members in attendance.
