Arsenio Hall’s late night television talk show has been canceled, CBS confirms. The network initially planned on renewing The Arsenio Hall Show for a second season, but had a change of heart.
“While there are many loyal fans of the show, the series did not grow its audience enough to continue,” a CBS Television Distribution spokesperson said. “Arsenio is a tremendous talent and we’d like to thank him for all the hard work and energy he put into the show. We’d also like to thank Tribune and all our station group partners for their support of the show.”
Earlier this year, former Tonight Show host, Jay Leno appeared on Hall’s syndicated program to announce that show was being picked up for another run. “Actually, in the second season, I’m going to be hosting,” Leno joked. “They didn’t tell you that part!”
After the initial announcement of the show’s renewal, Arsenio wrote in a statement: “Since 9/9/13, I’ve been waking up without an alarm clock. Producing and hosting my late-night talk show brings me great joy. I’m back where I belong!”
Following the huge 2013 launch, the show averaged a solid 1.9 in households and 1.0 in adults 18-49. But according to Deadline, the program didn’t hold it’s rocking ratings; most recently, averaging a low 0.7 rating in households and a 0.3 in 18-49.
