Philip Seymour Hoffman Dead At 46, Jennifer Lawrence And Others React

Academy Award winning actor Philip Seymour Hoffman was found dead in his Manhattan apartment on Sunday morning of what appears to be a drug overdose.

According to law enforcement, the actor, who won an Academy Award in 2005 for his role in Capote, was found in the bathroom of his 4th floor suite with a hypodermic needle still in his arm.

Sources tell the NY Post that last month, Hoffman appeared “out of it” while attending the party for his film God’s Pocket at the Sundance Film Festival. The actor has struggled with substance abuse in the past but according to reports has been clean for 23 years.

After news broke of the actor’s tragic death, celebrities took to Twitter to express their condolences:

Jennifer Lawrence: “Oh my god all my thoughts and prayers go to Philip Seymour Hoffman friends and family rip”

Gabrielle Union: “Noooooooooo!!!!! Simply put… One of the greats! Rest in peace”

Whoopi Goldberg: WTF!!!!philip-seymour-hoffman-found-dead-in-his-apartment, a truly great actor… Gone.. I hope someone says hey whoop it’s a hoax.. R.I.P

Chelsea Clinton: Very sad to read of Philip Seymour Hoffman’s passing. Keeping his family & friends in my thoughts.

Hoffman had three children with costume designer Mimi O’Donnell; Cooper, 10; Tallulah 7, and Willa, 5.
