Lupita Nyong’o, Kerry Washington & More: Essence Celebrates Black Women In Hollywood

For the seventh year in a row, Essence magazine celebrated the beautifully, brilliant Black Women in Hollywood. Kerry Washington, Oprah Winfrey, Angela Bassett and more hit the red carpet for the uber-exclusive luncheon.

This year, Oscar nominee Lupita Nyong’o was honored with the “Best Breakthrough Performance” award for her role as Patsey in 12 Years A Slave. Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences President Cheryl Boone Isaacs received the “Trailblazer Award” and the “Visionary Award” went to award-winning director/writer Ava DuVernay.

HipHollywood was on the red carpet for the Essence Black Women in Hollywood luncheon and spoke to Tracee Ellis Ross, Kerry Washington, Tika Sumpter, Common and more about the importance of celebrating talented and ambitious African-American women!
