Awards season can be quite the roller coaster, especially when you’re the new “IT” girl in Hollywood like Lupita Nyong’o. The 12 Years A Slave star has already won a Screen Actors Guild award and an Oscar nomination for her performance as Patsey, but hearing that she was nominated for a Golden Globe while in Paris was an emotional and unforgettable experience.
“My stomach was in knots…I broke out in a cold sweat. It was like being on a roller coaster. I screamed so loud when I heard my name and then I started to cry…”, Nyong’o told Essence magazine. Lupita is featured in the mags “Black Women in Hollywood” issue and on the cover, Oprah Winfrey, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Forest Whitaker and Michael B. Jordan are featured with the headline, “Bravo! Our Epic Year At The Movies”.
Winfrey, who starred in Lee Daniels The Butler as Gloria Gaines, describes her awards season saying, “This year has been a kick with a capital K-I-C & a double K!”
The “Black Women in Hollywood” issue of Essence magazine will hit stands Friday. The issue coincides with the 7th annual ESSENCE Black Women in Hollywood luncheon held during Oscar week on February 27th and of course HipHollywood will be on the red carpet!
