Exclusive: Will Tyler Perry Fans Be Offended by Mandela Joke in ‘A Madea Christmas’?

Published

on

In Tyler Perrys latest film A Madea Christmas the outspoken matriarch finally meets her match when she travels down to Alabama and meets her nieces redneck in laws who constantly get her name wrong … even calling her Mandela.

The joke was written before the civil rights leaders passing earlier this month, but Perry told HipHollywood during the films junket that he doesn’t think audiences will be offended.

“Absolutely no disrespect to Madiba”, said Tyler. “It’s just so perfect the way that it fit in there … she called her everything … so when that happened we thought it was hilarious.”

And believe it or not A Madea Christmas just may be Perry’s funniest film to date with Tika Sumpter, Anna Maria Horsford, Kathy Najimy and Larry the Cable Guy. Check out the rest of our interviews with the cast below.

So, larry the cable guy can’t tell a joke about a black guy and rabbi, however Madea can make a joke about shooting a “redneck” which is a white racial term. Am I doing it right?

No, I’m not offended, because there was NO WAY of knowing that Nelson Mandela would pass away by the release of “A Madea Christmas.”

Will also snapped some fun flicks with his son Jaden before greeting fans and speaking with reporters including HipHollywood.

He told HipHollywood that he was super excited to reunite with his Suicide Squad director David Ayer for the film, and would “work with him whenever he wants to.

“I love his madness how he creates,” gushes Smith. “How he thinks about scenes, the way he works with actors, it’s some of the best psychological work of any director I’ve ever worked with.”

In the film Smith plays an LAPD cop in a mythical world of orcs, elves and fairies … and Ayer told us, he couldn’t think of anyone better for the role.

“We had such a good time on Suicide Squad together and this role is kind of perfect for him, it’s an edgy movie, buts it’s funny. He’s got the best sense of humor of anybody I know.”

BRIGHT debuts on Netflix December 22. Peep the newest trailer below.
