While Nick Cannon was doing some good in Hollywood Sunday night with his TeenNick Halo Awards, elsewhere in the city, his name was being used to do a lot of bad.
An investigation is currently underway after a man pretending to work for Cannon pulled off a pretty smooth jewelry heist, stealing thousands of dollars worth of bling from high end retailer, Fred Segal.
The Los Angeles Police Department tells HipHollywood that a man called the upscale clothing store in Santa Monica and told the associate that the America’s Got Talent host needed jewelry for his wife, Mariah Carey. The man, who called himself Michael, told the woman to meet him at the Roosevelt Hotel so he can pick up the goods.
The female clerk, believe it or not, did as she was told and arrived at the hotel where she was greeted by another man who told her he was Cannon’s security guard … and wait, he was even dressed like security. He then told her that he would take the jewelry up to Cannon’s room and return with cash payment. But, you guessed it, he never returned.
LAPD tells us Nick was never on the premises and that a grand theft report was taken. We are told that the Hollywood burglary detectives are handing the ongoing investigation.
Meanwhile we’re sure this clerk is looking for new employment.
