Lorde Calls Nicki Minaj, Drake, Lana Del Rey “Irrelevant”

Published

on

New Zealand pop star Lorde is not a fan of Drake and Nicki Minaj. The “Royalty” singer let that be known during a recent radio interview, calling her peers’ music, “irrelevant.”

“Around the middle of last year I started listening to a lot of rap, like Nicki Minaj and Drake, as well as pop singers like Lana Del Rey,” Lorde told Interview magazine. “They all sing about such opulence, stuff that just didn’t relate to me—or anyone that I knew. I began thinking, ‘How are we listening to this? It’s completely irrelevant.'”

The 16-year-old singer says in order to produce her debut album, she looked to the people around her for influence. “I basically just wrote what we were all thinking. I tend to start with a full set of lyrics, and then my producer, Joel Little, and I work on the music collaboratively.”

I love lana del rey and she is not irrelevant

She’s saying the lyrical content of Lana Del Rey’s music is irrelevant, not LDR. She likes LDR’s music.

She has a point, though. Will these artists have long legacies when they’re gone? Probably not.

She is saying that those lyrics didn’t relate to her or her friends, not everybody in the world.

Ummm, Lana’s lyrics are Lana. She puts her soul and mind into her music so in turn her songs are a piece of her. By saying that her lyrics/music is irrelevant to her is basically saying that she find Lana irrelevant since Lana is the art.

      November 28, 2013 at 2:37 PM

Not sure how all you fans of her relate to her fake strip club, rich girl gone wrong persona/act not sure why all you 15 year old girls and gays find this so relevant. Shit you’re all at school you know about as much about what lana’s act is as she does which is fuck all. Oh sorry did you think you were being cool, dark, deep, meaningful and arty, reality check to the rest of the world you’re a bunch of dicks!

Well, I guess Lorde is irrelevant too because her lyrics make absolutely no sense. I can’t even make out what she is singing half the time…and even then her lyrics are mostly nonsense covered by a catchy beat. Drake and Nicki Minaj actually sing about themes that relate to real life like most other artists and even then only true Rap/R&B enthusiasts can understand it. Lana Del Rey is a very unique character and she might not sing well but her lyrics are very artistic and edgy…that’s what most artists do. So Lorde is just too young to understand that because she hasn’t fully grown up. She can sing well but she fails to realize that these artists have been around longer than her.

Oh here’s the media creating drama when there is none (yet again!). This comment is taken out of context.. It’s from a bigger NZ interview where she’s talking about her writing process. In it she’s NOT dissing, she’s not that kinda person. Lorde’s saying their rap is irrelevant to her as a young teenage kiwi girl & her friends – who FYI love rap & she’s a big fan of these artists but as NZers bling & opulence or even ghetto life, is very far removed for us. Even our most famous musicians don’t reach this level of wealthShe’s writing and singing about her life in NZ and what’s relevant

And what is real music? Music is a personal preferance. That is why many artist make it and have fan bases because everyone has different tastes. If you can’t respect that then you are not only a prick but a giant fool with your head up your ass.

This is definitely taken out of context. She meant it was irrelevant to herself, her emotions, and probably the emotions of a lot of people. She wasn’t actually dissing. This would be uncharacteristic of her, because she’s smarter than the media gives credit

It’s her OPINION. It’s not dissing. She doesn’t like their music. Big whoop. I don’t like Nikki and Drake,( though I do like and respect Lana), it doesn’t matter. Those who are calling her a stupid b**** are the stupid ones. Why call her that? It’s her opinion. Respect it. Ever heard of free will? Guess not. It’s such a shame people today CAN’T realize that.

    • Brittney Marie

      November 27, 2013 at 6:44 PM

All you fuckers care about is shit music talking about money and sex and drugs and partying. Wow… I hope music will restore itself one day. Can we get back to the realness of music please? I personally love LANA DEL REY..i can relate to a lot of her music..Also most of her songs are based off of the american dream and being proud of your nationality and where she comes from… Anyone can relate to music, but it takes a WHOLE othe person to truly READ it (meanings etc) usually that’s other aritsts who make/write music themselves… Also most true artists appreciate the work fo others even if it’s not their cup of tea… IMO Lorde is a musician, not an artist… Maybe once she grows up and learnd to TRULY appreciate music in ALL forms, i’ll consider her an artist but until then she’s just a musician… (i’ve been involved in music since i was 8 [heavily]) and i am now 23… I play many instruments main one being classical violin and i LOVE my classical roots because it’s what taught me to love all music and it all basically came from the same place… I also write. 🙂

    • guest1234

      November 27, 2013 at 10:00 PM

So in other words, Lorde needs to get off of her high horse and realize that she’s not the only one who can make music, and has irrealevent lyrics to some people… First she talks crap about a Selena Gomez song (and she didn;t even seem to know what the lyrics meant CLEARLY) and then tayloer swift… now this… her credibility is lost… she’s not working in her own favor…

      • Shyashank

        March 13, 2017 at 1:34 AM

Lana del Rey is awesome. She has good songs. I saw lorde on jimmy Fallon and wasn’t really impressed. Also what’s with the tennis court video she looks demonic. Wats with all her videos being lazy and just long shots of her face. She must be really into herself.

    • Lana sucks

      December 17, 2013 at 12:46 AM

I didn’t say anything about her appearance I just iM not very into her videos which are just long shots of her face. And actually that’s an ignorant comment because lots of artists are poor and have more interesting videos than their faces.

      • NOTanonly

        March 25, 2014 at 5:23 PM

Liposuction? If you compare “Lana Del Rey” images and “Lizzy Grant” images, she looks like she has been about the same weight for years, she might even weigh a little more now.
Boob job? Lana has small breasts (see GQ), she doesn’t need a boob job (no girl will ever NEED one) but clearly she has never had one.
Nose job? Doesn’t look like it.
Hair extensions? Most stars do that at some point, her hair looks pretty normal to me, but gosh Lady Gaga’s hair has been much more outlandish.

        March 27, 2014 at 6:56 PM

I am impressed by both Lorde’s and Lana Del Rey’s songs. Of course, Lana’s lived a bit longer and has that nuanced story to tell. Lorde is a very interesting singer-songwriter as well. Her opining on others adds another dimension. I don’t see anything particularly negative about what she has to say. She’s a kid representing a certain perspective. I am too old myself and carrying way too much experience baggage to be upset by her remarks. I’m glad she’s on the scene and if there is room in this world to criticize opulence, may the story grow long.

My apologies, but after listening through her entire discography, I came to conclusion that Lana Del Rey has absolutely nothing else to talk about besides having sex and some guy with tattoos that she calls “daddy”. I agree with Lorde, she has every right to say what she said. Lana Del Rey is pretty awful in my opinion and is the worst live entertainer. If you look at her fan base, its mostly young women who want to feel sexy or “bad” so they listen to her because her [always] seductive lyrics make them feel that way. And she doesn’t sing, its very lazy and, as a vocalist myself, I find it disappointing that this is what people call real music and throw the real talent under the bus. What about Feist or Shara Worden from My Brightest Diamond or St. Vincent who have been doing this for years and years? These are real vocalists that are overshadowed by trash like Lana who just pop up out of no where into the spotlight. But that’s okay, she will go as quickly as she came.

My apologies, but her voice is very lazy? you seem like you know a lot about voices, but the fact that all the “facts” you just stated about Lana are false makes you seem like a dumb asshole prick. This is late and I doubt youll read it but whatever. Lana’s boyfriend died a few years ago. She was in love with him. Thats who she sings about. She lost someone who she was gonna spend forever with. You know nothing about Lana. You didn’t know her when she was homeless, poor, when the only thing she had was singing. When she went to every club she could to sing her songs. She’s written so many songs, she’s put her heart and soul into her music career and she made it. There’s nothing wrong with that. You sound mad because people like Lana make it while whoever you listen to doesn’t. Which is ridiculous because not everyone likes the same music taste as you. It’s just so rude to put Lana down just because it’s not your type of music. I personally don’t like Nicki Minaj or Lady Gaga or Lorde, but I wouldn’t put them down just because I didn’t listen to them or understand them. Lana isn’t trash. Lana is a beautiful human being who has worked for where she is. She deserves to be known. I hate to break it to you, but lana has been in this industry her whole life., she has been known for many years now and she’s not going anywhere.

poor, when the only thing she had was singing. When she went to every
club she could to sing her songs.”

Lana was never homeless, poor, and only had her singing! She the beloved child of a billionaire who bought her career.

Her father is super wealthy 1%er and she has a new plastic surgeried face babe. LOOK AT THIS

Oh I can’t post the link on this place but google The Dirty Lana Del Rey for proof and pix.

Her father didn’t supported her career. She was sent to boarding school after he discovered LDR’s alcohol problem.
She lived with her uncle who was a middle class guy.
She sang at Clubs & parties to meet her ends during her college times.

You need to google her interviews & research media done in 2014

Fuck this website do your research. She’s said multiple times that she loves nicki minaj. She’s just talking personally, for her, she feels like pop music isnt relatable for the teens that consume it. To you all arguing over lana del ray’s merits, READ what lorde is saying. Stop twisting her comments about taylor swift and selena gomez for example as insults. Don’t fall for the headlines and try to understand what she’s saying. She’s making good points and is talking about her own music not personal attacks damn.

Lorde is CONSTANTLY talking shit about people from NO DAMN REASON! obviously he doesn’t understand the music industry. She is 16 and has no room to talk about artists that have been #1 on the billboard charts for more THAN ONE song. Lorde has no respect for adults. She is talking about people with experience in their 20’s. Her lyrics are irrelevant “my friends and I we’ve cracked the code.” what code? what friends? why? nobody gives a flying fuck about what Lorde has to say. She is trying to get popularity by saying things about artists. NEWFLASH nobody wants to do a collab with an annoying 16 year old that will talk about them afterwards. Lorde is DEFINETLY NOT ready for the music industry she is TOO immature. She still has not dropped her highschool gossip girl drama yet.

Actually, Lana isn’t the only person on Earth who has gone through shit. And furthermore, you are NOT a good artist if you talk about your same story in every song for 2 albums straight, “wow, she really has variety”! She’s awful, in every live performance, in every song that sounds exactly the same. But you know, I realize that all Lana fans are the same: close-minded and hate everyone that doesn’t like her. How about you pricks allow people to have their own opinions and stop trying to make it seem like Lana is the savior of music or something. Okay, maybe you do think shes a queen, but that just means you have anus-flavored taste in music and shouldn’t shove that down people’s throats. How about you be mature and let people have their own opinions. Tell me something you hate so I can tell you how much of a cum guzzler you are for hating it. Doesn’t sound fair does it? Maybe people don’t respect you or your “educated” opinion because you call their choice of music “anus-flavored”, like a fucking 12 year old.

I don’t care at all. Lana and lorde both are god awful cookie cutter pop music. I literally have no interest in either.

What I do have an interest in is shutting down faux-intellectuals who act like their opinions are any more valid than others. And you sir, are a faux intellectual.

Go ahead and get back on your high horse and ride off into the sunset though. Peace.

Her songs coexist together and have similar theme so that they can tell a larger story. That’s just my opinion and I respect yours. However I don’t stereotype other people and/or tell them to mature when I’ve just told them that their choice in music is “anus flavored”. I apologize in behalf of other hard-core fans if our opinions were crude, “close minded”, and/or to prick-ish. If that would make you feel better.

Nah, my feelings aren’t hurt or anything. It’s just annoying that out of the hundreds of people I know that like Lana, they all seem to curse me out for not liking her music and can’t respect my opinion. But it’s whatever, I actually hate Lorde now too, so this entire argument is no longer defending her and is pretty pointless. I resign.

“all Lana fans are the same: close-minded and hate everyone that doesn’t like her.”
How have you managed to turn your attention from the artist to the fans? How exactly is THAT mature? It’s not.

Guyyyzzzzz. It’s heropinion, why does everyone think she’s a devil or something. I have opinions too. And that even isn’t a bad opinon, she just said she or anyone around her didn’t relate to their lyrics. Like when Nicki Minaj sings about her “true love” or exspecially the song Beez In The Trap, how can anyone relate to that. Don’t get me wrong I like nicki’s lana’s and well not drakes music, but the lyrics are completely irrelevant. That and she meant she couldn’t relate to them. For example I’m a huge directioner and One Direction’s lyrics are totally irrelevant too, like all they sing about is love, and half of them aren’t even in love. No offense I love them with the bottom of my heart. Artist use thosr words like ‘love’ ‘nigga’ ‘baby’ because everyone in the world, even if they didn’t know how to speak english knows those words, that’s why the songs with the simpliest lyrics gets the most viewers because people get what they mean. So Lorde’s music is more meaninfull she uses ‘big words’ with a powerfull meaning. And everyone who is hating on her, give her a break, she just started on music business, and she’s a new celebritie + she’s young, do you think she would know how to act in interviews amd among other celebrities. And she’s a human being, with opinions like everyother in this world. It’s okay if you don’t like her music I don’t too, but don’t take it too far, don’t hate on her…. jeesh.

You guys are making yourselves look immature and ignorant. I, personally, can relate to Lana Del Rey better than Lorde, but I also listen to and like Lorde. They’re both talented in different ways. I don’t understand why you are so angry about this, it’s just Lorde’s opinion

Also, she’s not saying that she thinks that their music is irrelevant for all of you :P, she’s saying that this music (or lyrics) are irrelevant for her, can you understand that? FOR HER is irrelevant, it doesn’t mean that she is saying that the music that you listen to is irrelevant, IS HER OPINION

Also, why do you get angry and criticize? She has another reality, she thinks different than you…..you will hate her just because her thinking is different than yours? that is being stupid 😉

She is just a human like you, like everyone, and she sings so now she’s famous and she’s just saying what she thinks, a honest opinion…and I think that’s good because some people say lies to be good with all and to be loved 😛 (and basically that’s the same as being hypocrite)

“Why do you criticize? She has another reality, she thinks different than you….” funny because Lorde herself just cannot seem to take it if anyone else has a different reality than HER. Like if a guy took LDR to the Hamptons in a Bugatti as described in “National Anthem”, that would be Lana’s reality. You ought to tell Lorde, “Why do you criticize, Lorde? They have another reality, they think different than you.”

I happen to agree with Lorde. She is a very talented girl and I like her music. Most of the other contemporary artists such as Nicki Minaj, Drake etc out today have horrible music out. It is refreshing to hear and see that good artists like Lorde, Bruno Mars and Jennifer Hudson with good music on the radio again.

Glad to hear her opinion. From how she’s looking at it. It looks irrelevent. But from another, the same set of lyrics do seem relevant. So by addressing her opinion she isn’t exactly wrong. The fact that she addresses it with honesty should be greatly respected.

You have a wife and two daughters, and yet you say the smartest comment you’ve ever heard from a woman was the one above written by an anonymous college girl about Lorde’s misuse of the word “irrelevant”? Did you just insinuate your wife is stupid?

                • David Peretiatko

                  April 25, 2014 at 11:26 AM

No, I’m not saying my wife is stupid. I love her very much, but I don’t let love, nor any other factor, bias me. And my wife is just not as bright as this girl. Are you insinuating that all people have the same amount of intelligence? I don’t understand your problem with me complimenting a woman for her intelligence. The truth is, females are not as intelligent as males. I know that lit your fuse but I’m not a sexist, I’m a realist. I had to call Red Cross yesterday and have them bring my wife home from the military because I’m sick and cannot take care of myself. I have cried maybe 3 times in the last 10 years, one of them being when I picked her up at the airport and I told her I cannot survive without her. No one loves any woman the way I love my wife. My wife is anti-feminist, and understands that when feminists say they want to be equal that means they want equal rights without doing equal work or equally contributing to society or having equal accomplishments. I always like to say, a good place for women to start on their quest to be equal is at the construction sites, doing road work, etc. Why is it you never see a woman sweating in the sun or freezing in the cold doing road work? And you do realize over 95% of medicines and inventions (and I don’t mean “a better way to curl your hair”, I mean like the lightbulb) were invented by men. You realize men built your home, your grocery store, your mall, you post office. Man built the traffic system. Man created electricity and plumbing. Man is the one who conquered the Native American tribes and set up America (not sure if that’s where you live but that’s where I live). You act offended because someone says the truth. Not everyone is equal. I’m sorry. The real world isn’t kindergarten where the teacher tells everyone their art work is special. If I was a sexist, I wouldn’t have told that woman how smart she was. Do you know what sexist means? Do you think some white trash racist would compliment a black person? No. And if you do, you don’t know what racist means, either. You see, I care about the human species, and in order to continue our evolution, we must accept our roles. We must accept our place in life. Women are not as intelligent or as physically strong because they don’t NEED TO BE. The universe equipped women with a completely different set of skills because men were equipped intelligence and strength. My wife and I both understand our places and that’s why we have an amazing relationship and have made it through struggles most people never would. In the end, you’ll believe what you want, but just understand most women hate feminists in the way most Muslims hate suicide bombers and in the way most Christians hate the nut who shoots up a post office and claims “God told me to do it”.

‘m sorry but you are a total asshole.that is just pure sexism. Well, I guess it is understandable though, since your mother did abuse you. Sorry for that. But there are intelligent individuals in both genders. You are making yourself sound really stupid by stating that most inventions are made by men, so men are more intelligent. Oh no. Do you know why? Because women were considered as less valuable than men, and they didn’t have the same rights. They were there pretty much just to get married, cook and give birth. And feminism is all about equality, jerk. Do your research before commenting your “facts”. Naturally the average man is physically stronger than the average woman, yes, but there are no facts behind your claim of females being less intelligent. And by the way, if you are anti-feminist too, then don’t you want your daughters to study? Get a job? Do you think rape is okay? Is it the victim’s fault? Is it okay to pay less to women who work as hard as men (or harder)? Do people consider men as whores if they sleep around? These questions are fairly provocative, but I just want you to think about it. And by the way, the best maths student in our school is a girl. And there are really smart people, girls and boys, in our school, and I don’t see any difference between the genders. Wake up.

What an arrogant little twig. Just because she can not relate to the music that Drake, Nicki Minaj and Lana Del Rey make, doesn’t mean that everybody else in the friggin world can’t as well. Lorde’s lyrics are just a bunch of words thrown together that make no sense. Sorry but I can’t relate to any of her songs. Only reason why I dig Lorde’s music is because it’s catchy. But I don’t feel anything deep or personal except maybe a physical twitch when I’m listening to her music. She needs to chill out and smoke a joint. Relax. 47. NOTanonly

    March 24, 2014 at 10:59 PM

I understand what Lorde is trying to say, but if she would just say “not relatable” every time she thinks she wants to say “irrelevant”, EVERYONE would understand what she means and VERY FEW people would be offended. I know “relevant” means “connected with the matter in hand”, and if the matter in hand happens to be Lorde’s personal biography, then maybe some of the lyrics are “irrelevant”. But Lorde should know that a word like “irrelevant” is pejorative and is going to piss people off, which makes me suspect that this is part of her marketing position, to be the One Singer Who Says What We’re All Already Thinking, even though a lot of listeners have experienced more than her because of, well, age, and many people say they can’t relate to her lyrics anyway. It’s a way to get more attention than if she had been a nice considerate person and said “not relatable”. Lorde is trying to market and distinguish herself from competing artists as much as anybody else, and as they say out on the campaign trail, she is “going negative”. Her prime fallacy is that since HER thing is being “universally relatable” and writing about “real life”, that it should be every other artist’s art form as well. LORDE ASKED “WHY ARE WE LISTENING TO THIS?” But Lana Del Rey deliberately explores different characters sometimes, she supported herself for much of her life in a trailer park in New Jersey and she still managed to write “Go-Go Dancer” (“I know I go-go dance, but I do it for kicks/I never have to work ’cause my daddy is rich”). Just because it might not have actually happened doesn’t mean it’s not a good song OR THAT NO ONE SHOULD LISTEN TO IT. RELATABILITY IS NOT A UNIVERSALLY HELD CRITERION OF WHAT ONE SHOULD OR SHOULD NOT LISTEN TO. It’s obvious Nicki Minaj has no interest in relating to the common person. Look at “Hov Lane” (“they gon’ frame the receipt if I sign the dotted”). The songs Lorde takes issue with are fantastical, or lend to a vicarious thrill, or they might feature clever lyricism or even a good beat. PROBABLY ALL FOUR POSITIVE QUALITIES AND COUNTLESS MORE, CONSIDERING SHE SLANDERED THE REPERTOIRES OF THREE ARTISTS. Lana came out with three albums (each under a different professional name) as well as two EPs (at least forty songs, that’s conservative), Nicki has two albums herself even if you choose not to include the guest verses for which she is so well known. I don’t claim to be familiar with Drake but LORDE STILL CUT DOWN UPWARDS OF FIFTY DIFFERENT MUSICAL COMPOSITIONS THAT ARE AS DIFFERENT FROM ONE ANOTHER AS DIFFERENT CAN BE. As for the argument of “she’s just giving her honest opinion”, ANYTHING can be an honest opinion. If someone looked at you and said “I find your face repulsive, personally”, would you respect their “honest opinion” or would you recognize how rude they are? LORDE, CAN YOU PLEASE FOCUS ON YOUR OWN SONGS THAT PEOPLE ALREADY LIKE AND SAVE THE RUDE CRITIQUES FOR THE EMPLOYEES OF PITCHFORK.COM AND THE LIKE WHO MIGHT not HAVE ANYTHING BETTER TO DO.

Man. You put a LOT of work into that! Are you high? I’m not saying you’re wrong, because I think you’re right about everything you said, it’s just…most people wouldn’t take the time to make a comment of that length on a site maybe 200 people will ever look at. Except me, but that’s because I love music so much that I write a song every other day, sometimes 2 songs a day, and I live in Hollywood and I’ve turned down multiple record deals even though I was on food stamps because I refuse to make money off my music. I mean they were telling me I was going to be the next Bob Dylan, Frank Sinatra, Elvis, and all this shit. But I turned them down. Because I don’t want to be a part of the music industry. I thought I did. That’s why I moved out to hollywood. But when I got to the point where I could have signed a deal…I backed out. PLUS I do a lot of drugs lol. Weed and pills, that is. Both prescribed to me (at one point or another lol). So I was just thinking this guy must be a genuine music lover like me and/or he must be high.

      • NOTanonly

        April 20, 2014 at 5:46 AM

Not high, I don’t even drink. Maybe that’s the problem, internet comments are how I chill out when I’m not doing my work. I am a genuine music lover. “This guy must be…” I’m not a guy. I just don’t like a ton of criticism out there when it comes to music. I have written songs and poetry but chose to focus more on academics instead over the years (am currently in college). Your story is much much much more hard core than mine, puts me to shame. But no, I just listen to Lana, Nicki, Drake, I will concede I like Lorde’s “Bravado”, listen to music for fun when I’m getting ready to go somewhere, research my favorite artists, sometimes drink a nice Red Bull. Everything I typed I knew anyway, no extra research. I like to express my views like anyone else, if my views are “longer” than those of others I’m not going to consider that a bad thing.

You’re…not a guy? Well, forgive me of my sexism but you have to be the most intelligent woman I have ever encountered on the internet, or elsewhere. Again, I know this sounds sexist but my experience with women has just been that they aren’t very…mentally organized. I know I sound like a total ass but I’m just impressed by your comment and the intelligence it gives off. I mean, I was impressed when I thought you were a guy, which is why I commented in the first place, so don’t think I’m impressed exclusively because you are female, but I have to be honest that does make it more impressive to me. Especially you being the age you are. I’m only 28 but, not the point. Wow. I don’t know what you’re majoring in but you should be excited because you have a future ahead of you for sure.

LANA DEL REY IS QUEEN!! OH MY GOD! DOES SHE EVEN LISTEN TO HER MUSIC?!!! Lana’s songs have very deep meaning and have such beautiful lyrics and tunes. Lana sings and writes her songs from her heart and they all are signs of symbolism. Each and every lyric. I’m not hating on Lorde because I actually like her music as well. But Lana is queen. She’s my queen. My role model, my idol, my baby girl. I love her with all my heart and she is truly one of the best artists! Love you Lana!!!!! <3

all lana del rey does is sing about being a broken woman desperate for a mans affections. it’s sad. all this ‘nothing without you’ crap. it’s horrible to think that she is considered the alternative to whorepop. terrible role model and completely unhealthy messages in her songs.

      • danny4572

        August 2, 2015 at 2:30 AM

What an ignorant way to view her work. A f*ckwit like yourself probably wouldn’t even be able to interpret 90% of what is written in her songs to begin with. But ignoring that, what’s “wrong” about wanting “a mans affections”? And why can’t you separate entertainment from reality? Oh right, is it because you are a simpleton who needs to set limits in every area? And “unhealthy messages”? Could you explain what you mean by this? Are you suggesting that songs control people? She’s an artist within the music industry, and creates what she enjoys. It’s you who decides she must fit into a “role model” position, which I find funny because I would certainly say an artist with her talent, who expresses how she feels into the work she puts out, is a pretty decent “role model”. But the fact that you are comparing her work to the usual stuff you hear in pop music is pretty damn ridiculous, and says more about you. As for Lorde, she’s pretty much a tamed and more PC-friendly version of Lana.

And I know your comment is old, but I assume your position hasn’t changed seeing as though you come across as a stagnant and lazy individual.

Die bitch! Lana, you have my permission to fire a .45 right into this arrogant teen bitch slut’s head. The bitch did not deserve to become #1 on the Billboard 100.

OMG, Lorde are you serious?, Did you ever listen to Lana del rey, her music is real music, is art. She isn’t another musician that is managed by music companies. Her work is all authentic and original. Is art.
Is so funny that she said that about lana when in a inerview she said her album was inspirated in Lana’s music.

In another interview, she took the moronic approach of claiming Lana’s music was a bad influence to women (as if that’s the only fan-base present to begin with). Seems like she’s just bitter more than anything. Lana is already put next to big and respected names, where as Lorde is put in the category of the higher rated popstars.

I am not trying to be rude at all but, honey you are a New Zealand teenager from the suburbs. I don’t personally know you so I can’t claim that you had an easy life but…it would seem that Lana Del Rey who spent most of her early career in The Bronx/Brooklyn would have a more deep, gritty, and emotional relevance to most people than you. I appreciate your artistry and difference but think before you speak next time please.

You would think Lorde would appreciate artistry, because she’s clearly talented and creative, but sh clearly doesn’t. Despite her musical ability, she fails to separate entertainment from reality. She always brings Lana up in a salty way, and disrespects her work due to the albums not being about rainbows and butterflys. Lord e is one of them who acts as though music controls the actions of people, which kind of suggests that she probably limits herself with her music also. Lana’s music may be more darkers, but someone on the verge of suicide in unlikely to be a Miley Cyrus fan if Lana didn’t exist. Somebody who is very happy isn’t going to turn suicidal from the control of an album either. That person who is suicidal however ay find positive influence within the artist’s work, contrary to what f*ckwits like Lorde spew.

Did she ever stop and think, ‘wait some people to listen to music because it sounds good’, or better yet, ‘not everybody had the same experiences as me and interprets things the same way’.

What’s more annoying is the way she places herself on a pedestal because people seem to think she is mature for her age. She is well-spoken, but hardly articulates above par for her age. Most teens can speak coherent English and throw in a few unorthodox words every so often.

Just because her music is more abstract, doesn’t mean she can so harshly dichotomise between herself and them. Maybe accept that you’re all branched under the same umbrella term of ‘music’ and take influence from other artists’ work that’s been successfully selling for a lot longer than yours.

She seems like the type who acts as though music controls people to do certain things, thus must only fit within the limits she sets as far as subjective “morals” go. She claims Lana’s music is a “bad influence”, just because she releases darker material. No happy person is going to listen to an album from Lana or Marilyn Manson and suddenly turn suicidal. And any depressed person who does listen to the material would have likely found another source for the content if it wasn’t there; they could also find some positive influence from the work, due to being able to relate to the artist on a deeper level. And then of course there’s the fact that it’s entertainment, and shouldn’t be limited based on the fact that it’s music.

Lorde always seems to be salty, so maybe it’s related to the fact that she’s pretty much a smaller, less-credited, more toned-down, pro-PC version of Lana?
