Why Alicia Keys, Beyonce, Tyra Banks Lost “Princess And The Frog” Role

According to Jen Rudin, whose book Confessions of a Casting Director hits stores next month, several high profile Hollywood women were gunning to land the role of Tiana in Disney’s animated film, Princess and the Frog.

The 2009 film was a fairy tale set in Jazz Age-era New Orleans and centered around a young Black woman named Tiana and her fateful kiss with a frog prince who desperately wants to be human again.

The lead role went Anika Noni Rose, but Jennifer Hudson and Beyonce, her Dreamgirls co-stars, wanted it as well. And while Beyonce had a chance at getting the gig, Rudin says the actress acted a bit too entitled for her own good. “Beyoncé expected an offer, but wouldn’t audition and so she didn’t get one,” Rudin explained.

“Tyra Banks, Jennifer Hudson wanted it,” the author continued. “Alicia Keys auditioned three times … They had to sing, so we made it clear they needed sheet music. Tyra came in with a CD, but it didn’t matter because she was so pretty and nice.”

And in the end, the role went to Noni Rose, because according to Rudin, she “was the most qualified.”

Will also snapped some fun flicks with his son Jaden before greeting fans and speaking with reporters including HipHollywood.

He told HipHollywood that he was super excited to reunite with his Suicide Squad director David Ayer for the film, and would “work with him whenever he wants to.

“I love his madness how he creates,” gushes Smith. “How he thinks about scenes, the way he works with actors, it’s some of the best psychological work of any director I’ve ever worked with.”

In the film Smith plays an LAPD cop in a mythical world of orcs, elves and fairies … and Ayer told us, he couldn’t think of anyone better for the role.

“We had such a good time on Suicide Squad together and this role is kind of perfect for him, it’s an edgy movie, buts it’s funny. He’s got the best sense of humor of anybody I know.”

BRIGHT debuts on Netflix December 22. Peep the newest trailer below.
