Exclusive: Legal Expert Says Chris Brown Is More Than Likely Going To Jail

[UPDATE:]

Chris Brown is expected to appear in court after 1 p.m. EST today to face assault charges after allegedly punching a man in the face on Sunday morning in D.C.

The D.C Superior Court tells HipHollywood that Brown will face a judge sometime this afternoon, but because there are a number of prerequisites that need to be met before the hearing, the court is unsure what time the singer will see the judge.

Chris Brown may have been able to avoid to serving time behind bars for the 2009 assault of Rihanna, but attorney Jamon R. Hicks of the Cochran Firm tells HipHollywood exclusively that the singer might not be so lucky following his weekend arrest.

Brown and his bodyguard were taken into custody early Sunday morning after allegedly assaulting a man outside of the W hotel in Washington, DC. According to witnesses, Brown went “ballistic” after two men photobombed a picture he was taken with two female fans. Brown is being accused of hitting one of the men so hard that he broke his nose.

It’s the type of crime Brown is being accused of that leads Hicks to believe the singer will be going to jail this go-round. “What’s most troubling is that it’s for the same time of behavior,” Hicks explains. “Maybe if it was for like a petty theft or something that was different, maybe a DUI, they would have given him some leniency, but another fight? It’s not a good look for Chris Brown.”

The 24-year-old pop star is still on probation for the Rihanna assault, which means he could be violated back in Los Angeles despite his most recent troubles taking place nearly 2,500 miles away. “I would say that it’s a strong likelihood that he will probably get some time. Probably not prison time, probably county jail time, but the fact that he’s facing up to four years, I think they’ll give him something.”

In addition to this latest arrest, Brown was involved in a January fight with Frank Ocean, and a bottle throwing brawl with Drake inside a New York nightclub last year.

Brown is set to appear in Los Angeles court Nov. 20 for a probation hearing for the Rihanna assault. The arrest could result in Brown’s probation being revoked and him getting sent to the slammer.

It seems too late. If the judge’s verdict is for him to serve jail time, he will have to comply. He has always had anger problems and the red flag was there. I don’t know how he let this escalate. Something had to be done a long time ago but no one had the insight to foresee this was something bound to happen. My heart goes out to his mom and all the people who genuinely love him.

Will also snapped some fun flicks with his son Jaden before greeting fans and speaking with reporters including HipHollywood.

He told HipHollywood that he was super excited to reunite with his Suicide Squad director David Ayer for the film, and would “work with him whenever he wants to.

“I love his madness how he creates,” gushes Smith. “How he thinks about scenes, the way he works with actors, it’s some of the best psychological work of any director I’ve ever worked with.”

In the film Smith plays an LAPD cop in a mythical world of orcs, elves and fairies … and Ayer told us, he couldn’t think of anyone better for the role.

“We had such a good time on Suicide Squad together and this role is kind of perfect for him, it’s an edgy movie, buts it’s funny. He’s got the best sense of humor of anybody I know.”

BRIGHT debuts on Netflix December 22. Peep the newest trailer below.
