Exclusive: Tika Sumpter On Working With Oprah: “You Feel Like You’re A Goddaughter”

Published

Tika Sumpter is dropping her good girl image and showing off her sexy, villainess side in Tyler Perry’s The Haves and the Have Nots.

HipHollywod caught up with the gorgeous and talented actress to talk about her role on the TV drama. “My character Candace, started off as an escort who meets one of the main characters of the “haves” family, and basically gets involved with him and causes chaos in the family,” Tika explained.

“She’s (Candace) a villain because she kind of turns everything on its head. She causes massive chaos and confusion for her own gain,” the actress dished.

And with a show called the Haves and the Have Nots, we had to know what Tika has and does not have in her own personal life. “I have a great family. I have a great mother who’s my best friend. I have a roof over my head that I can pay for myself. And I have really great friends,” she shared.

“What I do not have … a man,” she laughed.

The drama filled program is OWN’s first scripted series, and Oprah Winfrey is completely hands on with the project. Tika told HH what it is like working with such a global icon.

“Oprah is awesome. Another great boss to work for. Somebody who really cares about the people, her employees. I don’t feel like an employee, you feel like you’re a Goddaughter … she just cares about your career,” Sumpter shared.

Tune in to The Haves and the Have Nots Tuesday nights at 9 P.M. on OWN.

Will also snapped some fun flicks with his son Jaden before greeting fans and speaking with reporters including HipHollywood.

He told HipHollywood that he was super excited to reunite with his Suicide Squad director David Ayer for the film, and would “work with him whenever he wants to.

“I love his madness how he creates,” gushes Smith. “How he thinks about scenes, the way he works with actors, it’s some of the best psychological work of any director I’ve ever worked with.”

In the film Smith plays an LAPD cop in a mythical world of orcs, elves and fairies … and Ayer told us, he couldn’t think of anyone better for the role.

“We had such a good time on Suicide Squad together and this role is kind of perfect for him, it’s an edgy movie, buts it’s funny. He’s got the best sense of humor of anybody I know.”

BRIGHT debuts on Netflix December 22. Peep the newest trailer below.
