DMX Files For Bankruptcy, Owes $1.24 Million In Child Support
DMX’s financial woes have taken a turn for the worse. Earl Simmons, the rapper’s legal name, filed for bankruptcy in Manhattan on Tuesday.
Simmons reportedly owes $1 to $10 million in debt, which includes $1.24 million owed in child support and $21,000 on an auto lease. The 42-year-old also owes $50,000 in assets.
In a statement released by DMX’s publicist, the rapper’s financial strains have been inhibiting his career for several years.
“Poor financial management by prior representation have caused him to be ineligible to retain a passport. The purpose of this bankruptcy filing is for reorganization so he can perform for his fans oversees. We are currently planning a tour in Europe and Africa for the fall of 2013,” the statement read.
News of Simmons’ bankruptcy comes just days after the rapper was arrested in South Carolina and charged with DUI and driving without a license. The South Carolina Highway Patrol told HipHollywood that Simmons was driving a 1978 Plymouth Station Wagon when he was spotted driving erratically on U.S. 29, near Rushmore Drive. He was pulled over and taken into custody.
