Everything We Know About The ‘Magna Carta Holy Grail’ Album
We’re less than two weeks away from the release of Jay-Z’s new album, Magna Carta Holy Grail. If you’ve been in a hole lately, HipHollwood is going to make your life easier with a rundown of everything we know about the iconic rapper’s 12th studio album.
1. The album will be released on July 4th.
Jay made this announcement just weeks before the album is set to drop in a video posted on his website, Life + Times.
2. The album has already gone platinum … well sort of.
Thanks to Hov’s partnership with Samsung, the company bought one million copies of the album and plans to give them out to users of the Samsung Galaxy S III, Galaxy S 4, and Galaxy Note II, just 72 hours before the album’s official July 7th release. (Genius!) Only thing is Billboard has said that they do not intend to count those sales towards their certification … but a million sales is a million sales, isn’t?
3) There is, in fact, an app for that.
In order for Samsung users to snag the album early, Jay-Z created an app. (Who wouldn’t?) On June 24th users can download the “Magna Carta Holy Grail” app through the Android Google Play Store. Then on July 4th, for the first million who downloaded it, “Magna Carta” will appear for free in the app.
4) The album features some big time producers including Pharrell, Rick Rubin (who just produced Yeezus for Kanye West), Timbaland and Swizz Beatz.
In a three minute video posted on his website, Jay is shown kickin’ it with his boys in the studio. The beats in the background give us high hopes for the album, and with these four producers contributing who would expect anything less?
5) The Dream will be featured on a track.
The hip-hop artist tweeted shortly after the big announcement, hinting to fans of his involvement. “@TheKingDream Holy Grail. Yeah we did that!”
6) Expect some deep verses about the struggle of life
“The album is about this duality, of how do you navigate your way through this whole thing, through success, and through failures, and remain yourself?” Jay says about the album. Need we say more?
7) The news caused Jay-Z to break his 2 month vow of silence on Twitter.
Jay-Z took to social media to let us know his new album will be instituting a set of #newrules for everyone in the rap game. In a series of tweets, he hash tagged “newrules” telling fans to tune into Kanye West, J. Cole, and Wale, and his new album to hear whats next. This goes along with his video, in which he refers to the internet as “The Wild West,” in other words there are no rules… that is until the album drops.
