President Obama’s Senior Prom Photos Surface

While the world is used to seeing President Barack Obama standing behind a podium, speaking profound words, and running our country, it’s hard to believe that the President was once just a teenager excited about prom.

TIME magazine exclusively obtained photos of President Obama from his senior prom night. The picture is of a 17-year-old Obama, posing with his date, Megan Hughes, and his two friends Greg Orme and Kelli Allman. Obama attended Punahou School, in Hawaii, and his date was a student at the Hawaii School for Girls at La Pietra.

The President of the United States rocked black slacks, a black button-up shirt, blue tie and an off-white blazer. The foursome were draped in leis, and smiles that brightened up the room.

Allman, Obama’s former classmate who found the pictures, told TIME that it was a really fun and happy time. “We were all cracking up, and everyone was smiling … It was pretty typical from there out as far as what happens at prom: the dinner and the dancing and the photos,” Allman shared.

Be sure to pick up a copy of the this week’s TIME magazine. The article is titled, “Obama’s Grand Old Party.”
