A Gary, Indiana screenwriter is suing Tyler Perry, claiming that the director stole his script and used it to make his latest film, Temptation: Confessions of a Marriage Counselor.
William James filed a lawsuit on Wednesday claiming that Temptation is the same story line as James’ 2009 script, Lovers Kill. According to the lawsuit, both films are based on a married couple, where the wife is tempted by another man, which then leads to an affair. Let’s be honest, infidelity in a movie isn’t exactly a new idea.
In the lawsuit, William claims to have given a copy of his script to Perry’s friend, who is also an associate of Oprah Winfrey, hoping it would get into Tyler’s hands. But, there is a strong possibility Perry never actually read the screenplay.
William is reportedly suing for unspecified damages, and is asking for Temptation to be re-edited so that the opening and closing credits include “Based on the Novel ‘Lovers Kill’ by William James.”
HipHollywood reached out to Tyler Perry’s camp, so far no word back.
