Perry Responds to Spike Lee's 'Coon' Comment

Tyler Perry paid a visit to CBS' 60 Minutes this week to discuss his work, his now widely known abusive childhood, along with one specific critique of his work.

A while back, Spike Lee made some pretty harsh comments concerning Perry's films and television shows. He compared shows like 'Meet the Browns' and 'House of Payne' to 'Amos and Andy', claiming that Perry's content sets us back as African Americans.

Lee stated:"I think there's a lot of stuff out today that is coonery and buffoonery,” referring directly to Perry’s TBS programs “Meet the Browns” and “House of Payne.” “I'm scratching my head. We've got a black president. Are we going back?” asks Lee.

A noticably upset Tyler Perry responds to the CBS correspondent stating,“What Madea, Brown, all these characters .[they ] are bait. Disarming, charming, make-you-laugh bait so I can slap Madea in something and talk about God, love, faith, forgiveness, family, any of those things,” says Perry.

Watch the video to hear the rest of his response.
