Jada Pinkett Smith and her A-list actor husband Will have been battling rumors about their marriage for years. One of those rumors includes the claim that the two are involved in an open marriage.

Despite denying the suggestion in several interviews, the rumor has haunted the dynamic duo. Jada tried her best to silence the gossip for good during an interview with HuffPost Live on Wednesday, but what followed her initial denial may have fueled the rumor further.

Asked about the the reports, the actress replied, “I’ve always told Will, ‘You can do whatever you want as long as you can look at yourself in the mirror and be okay … Because at the end of the day, Will is his own man. I’m here as his partner, but he is his own man. He has to decide who he wants to be and that’s not for me to do for him. Or vice versa.”

Will and Jada have been married for 16 years, and during that time have dealt with all kinds of gossip and whispers about their marriage. Just last year, it was widely reported that Jada was having an affair with her Hawthorne co-star, Marc Anthony. That rumor and several tabloid reports about an impending divorce eventually proved false.

Still, Jada admits being married to Will isn’t a walk in the park. “I don’t think it’s easy to be married to anyone,” she told HP. “I think that you have to go into a relationship knowing — especially when you’re dedicating yourself to someone for the rest of your life – this is a life partnership … He’s my best friend. He’s been by my side through some of the most difficult parts of my life. And so that’s something you can never take away.”
